This week has been packed with milestones, training progress, and a whole lot of snow-filled fun! Here’s a glimpse into Churro’s third week with us:
Training Highlights
Using Churro’s breakfast, lunch, and dinner kibble, we continued to work on:
Sit
Down (with me standing)
Touch
Paws Up
Leash Work
And introduced:
Shake
Hold It
Exposure to Wobbly Surfaces
If you are invested in our progress, check out this 10 minute video compilation of our efforts this week. (Video editing/paring is new to me! 😅)
In addition to “formal training”, Churro also got up close and personal with some of our animal husbandry tools this week, as Queso gives us helpful demo of them.
Snow Day Fun
We received our first big snow accumulation of the season, and Churro got to experience snow for the first time. As expected, he LOVED it! He also met the snow shovel, which quickly became a source of curiosity.
I couldn’t resist capturing his joy in the snow, so we had an impromptu photo session. No posing was required; I simply let him be himself and snapped away. Here are some of my favorites:
Queso joined in the fun too, of course. He loves trying to catch snow flying off the shovel!
Crate Training Update
Churro sleeps like a champ in his nighttime crate, but daytime naps remain a work in progress. The longest he’s managed is an hour, though most naps are closer to 30-45 minutes. He’s often restless and whiney. However, when we let him nap outside the crate, he snoozes for a solid 1.5-2.5 hours. One particularly heart-melting moment: Today, while napping in the kitchen behind me, Queso snuggled up next to him. Aww!
And a bonus discombobulated puppy video.
A Wild Weather Day
The forecast called for 1-2” of snow, but instead, we got 8” of fresh powder, which meant 3’ drifts, and CRAZY high winds that by the end of the day completely decimated our wind chimes. Churro had a blast plowing through the drifts and embracing the adventure. If you only look at one thing on this post, let it be the following video! ❄️
And amid the bananas weather event, Churro had his first well-visit checkup at the vet. The drive was a white-knuckle experience with him offering plenty of "vocal encouragement”, but once we arrived, he charmed everyone. The staff and vet called him "perfect." 🥰 He received his vaccines and the green light to explore more socialization opportunities. After discussing our crate-nap challenges, Doc Brooke suggested using a timer to build consistency, which we started immediately. And I’m happy to report the drive home was much smoother, thanks to the calmer weather.
Home Life Shenanigans
Churro needed a quick nap after his morning adventures and decided to “help” me make the bed. (Pro tip: It’s always nice when your pets match your home décor! LOL.)
Sassy moments? We’ve had plenty.
Queso continues to be the best big brother, showing patience and gentleness during playtime:
Use of the “puppy tube” as a defensive position. I could tell Churro was wound-up during these interactions, which means that he is over-tired. So right after I took these videos, he went into his crate for a (timed) nap. 🥱
Puppy Life = Exhausting (and Wonderful)
Have I mentioned how exhausting it is having a puppy!? 😅😴 But even in the busiest, most chaotic moments, Churro’s antics and snuggles make it all worth it.
Here’s to another week of adventures with this sweet, sassy boy!

I am loving your adventures with Churro. He seems like a fun and energetic puppy! His photos playing in his first snow are so adorable.
Such an intrepid little guy! We haven't gotten a good snow for the dogs to play in a couple of years, my dogs are jealous! My pup is 5 months now and it's already hard to believe he was so small just a few months ago. Enjoy the puppy snuggles 💖
The puppy in the snow. I love it do much
Churro's snow debut sounds like pure magic! First snowfalls have a way of turning pups into snowflakes with tails, don’t they? And the snow shovel becoming a VIP in his winter adventure? Classic. Love that you let his joy take center stage—those candid moments always make the best photos. Who needs props when you have paws in the powder, right?
Great job, both of you!! 🥰
