This was a twofer week!! I was able to secure TWO homework assignments in a single session! 🥳
This week I had a vision of sleek furry dogs running through frondy grasses just after sunrise. With some help from a friend, I managed to locate the perfect models… local silken windhounds Oliver, Lydia, and puppy Bee’s Knees (out of Clayborn Kennel) – and they were EXACTLY what I was looking for. Oliver and Lydia took their running tasks seriously, alternating between the “tuck and run” pose and the “full Superman”, and, as predicted, their wispy fur looked incredible with the sun shining through it. The song lyric that kept going through my head was Bob Seger’s “Running Against the Wind”. 🎵
Even though it was early morning, it warmed up fast, so we headed to the shade and brought nine-week old Bee’s Knees out of her carrier. Omsqueeeee! She is CRAZY cute, with little floppy ears and shiny button eyes. I couldn’t get enough of her! She was a little less predictable than her adult counterparts, bopping around various places checking out the flying bugs. But she paused for a moment as the sun filtered through the trees behind her.

Have you ever met a Silken Windhound? These elegant and graceful dogs are a relatively new breed, created in the late 1980s by Francie Stull. Francie wanted to blend the elegance of Borzoi with the agility of Whippets, and the result was the Silken Windhound—a small to medium-sized sighthound with a silky, flowing coat and a sweet, affectionate nature.
Silken Windhounds are known for being friendly, loving, and great with children and other pets, making them wonderful family companions. They have a sleek, athletic build and come in a variety of colors and patterns. Despite their regal appearance, they are low-maintenance and generally healthy.
These dogs excel in activities like lure coursing, agility, and obedience, thanks to their intelligence and eagerness to please.
Olive,r pictured below, ran to his mom on a simple recall, but true to the breed, his sister Lydia preferred to chase her lure.
