Love Looks Like This

Love Looks Like This... And It Belongs in a Photo

May is National Photo Month - a time to celebrate the power of photography and the moments that deserve to be preserved. As a dog photographer, I spend most of my time capturing four-legged best friends in all their tail-wagging glory. But here’s something I say often (and will keep saying until every last dog mom (& dad!) listens):

You belong in the photo, too.

Yes, you. The one fixing the ears, adjusting the collar, doling out treats, or making silly noises to get that head tilt just right. The one whose love shines through in every image - even if you’re not in it.

We Think We’ll Remember

It’s easy to think we’ll always remember the way they looked at us with those eyes, the way they tucked themselves into our side, the way their ears perked up at the sound of our voice. But time has a funny way of softening edges. We remember the feeling, yes - but the details fade.

Photos freeze those everyday, magical moments in time. They tell stories we didn’t even realize we were living.

For You - and for Them

When your dog looks at you, they don’t see messy hair or tired eyes. They see their whole world. So let them have an experience that shows what that looks like. Let your kids, your partner, your future self see how present you were in this season of life.

And with Mother’s Day this month, I’ll add this: Dog moms, human moms, stepmoms, grandmas, mother figures of every kind - you are doing the most important work. Being in the photo isn’t about vanity. It’s about legacy. It’s about connection. It’s about honoring the role you play in the lives of those you love (furry or otherwise).

The Gift of Being Seen

So often, people tell me they don’t want to be in the photo because they "need to lose ten pounds," or "hate how they look in pictures." But here’s the truth: you don’t need to change a single thing to be worthy of being remembered as you are right now.

The way your dog leans into you? The way you instinctively smile when they do that thing that always makes you laugh? That’s the gold.

This May, during National Photo Month, I hope you’ll give yourself permission to be part of the story - not just the storyteller. Book the session. Step into the frame. Celebrate the bond that’s woven into the small, quiet moments of every day.

Because someday, these photos won’t just be pictures.

They’ll be proof that you were here, and that you loved big. 🩷🐾
